I first saw Willie as a 4 month old pup when I went to stay with Sue and Bill at the Cottage - sort of a holiday (don't mention freezers or the Tour de France). He had so much character I was hooked on him. He collected "pets"!!! Moths, butterflies, even frogs. He would bring them into the cottage of an evening, including the frog, which he carried in in his mouth. I was sure it was dead when I took it off him, but, no it wasn't so the poor thing was released back into the garden. Sue kept him for a while (Willie, not the frog) and did some shows with him, but someone who had previously had a Border Collie asked her if she had a dog available so she let him go.
Willie was returned to Sue as a 2 year old, due to a breakdown in a relationship. I met him again at the North West Border Collie Club Open Show in January 2002 where he won his class.
Later in the year, Denva having died in the March, I decided that I "needed" a male in the house, but didn't want a puppy (well, I had Kaos and after that who could cope with another!!). Sue had said that someone was interested in Willie and I suggested that he really ought to come to me. He knew me (he never had forgotten me) and he would be coming to a house that already had relations of his. So, in November 2002 Willie came to live at Jenwisp. He soon proved his worth when some idiot decided to do a war dance on my garage roof in the middle of the night and fell through it. Willie was doing his guarding bit, growling, deep and low. He's since "done his bit" when my next door neighbour had a "visitor" in the back yard. All the dogs were in my yard when this "person" pushed my neighbour's gate open, on the pretext of looking for a room. He claimed he was a student (we live near the University). If he was a student, I'm Princess Anne. Willie (and Kaos) went ape. I think if Willie had been able to get over the wall, the "visitor" would have been in trouble.
I've found that he doesn't like cats, having frightened at least one life out of a little cat that had dared to venture into the yard. I haven't seen it since!!
He is such an easy dog to live with, playful, affectionate, he's not a bit of trouble. He's a bit of a softie, gives in a lot of the time, but when he's had enough of Kaos, you'll find them playing "kangaroos", standing on their hind legs boxing, then he goes and hides his head ("if you can't see me I'm not here").
Welcome to Jenwisp, Willie Gofar.
