Brenda's Golden Treasure
13th November 1974 to May 1979

I had Sandy when she was 4 1/2 weeks old as her mother had rejected her litter. It was with Sandy that I enrolled at a local Dog Obedience Club when she was becoming rather naughty. She progressed from the course through the classes to the top class and ultimately to the competition class. With the help of the class trainer, Ann, (who was to become a very good friend and still is) and a lot of very hard work (Sandy had developed that wonderful fault called lagging) we started to enter shows. I remember my very first open show. We were entered in Pre-Beginners and Beginners. We lost 22 in Pre-Beginners and 17 1/2 in Beginners. We made steady progress and eventually the marks came down. Sandy won 1 Beginners at Stafford and 1 Novice at Kirby Sports Centre (on a clear round). She also had many places, including one in "A" and many Best Crossbreed rosettes.

However, Sandy became paralysed with osteo-arthritis of the spine and after tests and x-rays, which were sent off to Liverpool. My Vet said that whilst he could try and do something for her, he could not guarantee it would be successful. I had read the Report from Liverpool, and it did not look good. The Vet advised me that it was in her best interests to have her put to sleep, and as she was in so much pain, I reluctantly agreed. I was devastated, Sandy always knew what I was thinking even before I did. A very special dog.
