Jules...the Just William of the canine world. The little boy with tousled hair, shirt hanging out of his trousers; pockets full of string, chewing gum, sticky toffees, and whatever else little boys have in their trouser pockets; socks down around his ankles.

I saw Jules initially as a 3-week-old puppy (along with his brother and sister) in an e-mail sent to me by Sue. Sue sent me another email when he was 4 weeks old. First time out on grass. I took one look at him and thought "This pup's got character. Was I right, or was I right? I went down to see the pups at about 6 weeks old. I was right! So very right! Sue had said I could have one if I wanted one. I needed another dog like I needed a hole in the head but, being me, I said I would have Jules. Named Jewel in the Crown because of the diamond shaped mark on his head.

Jules came home at about 9 weeks of age. He entered like a tornado. He was actually pick of the litter, but things don't always turn out as they should. He was shown once and I decided that he would not be shown again, but would stay with me as my best friend.

Because of his exuberance, I decided that he needed something to channel his brain and have just started agility training with him.

-------------------------------------------------

Sadly, Jules' story ends here. He died as a result of a tragic accident. He had just spent a very happy hour running in the snow, sliding down the paths on his bum when he lost his footing on the ice, chasing the whippets, rushing back to me for a titbit, all with a smile on his face. It was his first time out after Christmas and he was full of himself.

I miss him dreadfully. The house is so still. I won't say quiet because he wasn't noisy - just very active - a 'high voltage dog'. Sleep well Jules, I will love your forever.
